Jobcom JMX Series Programming
Guide
IMPORTANT: This programming guide contains instructions to:
- Select alternative operating frequency(s) from the JMXs stored memory and program
it for operation.
- Program QCTM (Quiet Call) Codes.
- Read out the channel contents if you dont know what frequency the unit is set for.
NOTE: We strongly recommend you read the entire document before programming.
I. GENERAL
The JMX-152 and JMX-452 are programmable two-way radios that you can reprogram to other
channel frequencies stored in JMX's memory. Reprogramming is typically done to relieve
excessive channel congestion or to match the frequencies of other two-way radios in your
group. JMX handheld radios are available in two models, JMX-152 VHF and JMX-452 UHF. You
can program VHF radios to communicate together and UHF radios to communicate together; BUT
UHF AND VHF CANNOT BE PROGRAMMED TO COMMUNICATE TOGETHER. Before reprogramming a JMX radio
or reading out its channel contents, identify it as either JMX-152 VHF or JMX-452 UHF.
Locate the model identification on the label below the belt clip on the back of the radio.
What You Can Program:
You can enter (program) either one or two channel frequencies from Table 1, and either
one or two QC (Quiet Call) codes from Table 2. These tables, on the back page, list all
the frequencies and QC codes available in the JMX's memory. With the radio in programming
mode, you can also read out the channel frequencies and QC codes already programmed into
the radio.
CHANNEL FREQUENCIES
Your JMX comes from the factory with two channels programmed, either Color Dots or
Color Stars, depending on the frequency band. The programmed channels contain operating
frequencies, allowing the JMX to transmit to and receive from other radios on the same
frequency(s) within the VHF or UHF band. Identify channel frequencies by the color-coded
decals on the bottom of the radio. If the decals are missing, read out the contents of
your radio to determine what frequency or code they are programmed to; see Section IV.
Reading the Radios Contents."
QC (QUIET CALL)
A standard feature of the JMX is QC privacy, which allows units on the same frequency
to only hear other radios with the same QC code. Program this feature if your channel is
congested with unwanted signals or traffic. IMPORTANT: JMX units are shipped from the
factory with QC not programmed.
You can program a different QC code for each of two channels; refer to Example 4.
II. PROGRAMMING AND READOUT
GUIDELINES
Read the following guidelines before you begin programming your JMX radio or reading
out its contents:
- Enter (program) each frequency and QC tone as a 2-digit code. Code is entered one digit
at a time by pressing the radio PTT (Push-To-Talk button) the number of times equal to the
digits value. (e.g.: To enter the digit "5," press the PTT five times.) At
the completion of each digit, a tone sounds to indicate the unit is ready for the next
digit.
EXAMPLE OF PROGRAMMING A 2-DIGIT FREQUENCY CODE: From Table 1, 151.805 MHz = Code
12. To enter Code "12," press PTT once = "1," then pause
(tone heard); press PTT twice = "2" (tone heard again): you have programmed
"12."
- Pause, to tell the radio that you are finished entering a digit.
- For the digit 0 (zero), press the PTT ten times; DO NOT skip zero.
- The frequency band (VHF or UHF) is determined by the radio model.
JMX-152 = VHF; JMX-452 = UHF
- The radio will sound an error tone if you enter a code not listed in Table 1.
- If you are programming channel frequencies without QC, enter code 44, No
Tone" in sequence after the channel programming. See Examples 1 and 3 below.
- Invalid Entries: An error tone indicates you have tried to save an invalid entry. In
this case, no programming changes are made. Resume entering codes when you hear a
"triple tone" confimring the radio is in programming mode.
- Entry Mistakes: If you press the PTT button five times when you intended four, for
instance, or if you lose count of the number of presses, DO NOT press the volume up button
to store the entry. Instead, start over by turning the radio off, then on again. Perform
Step 3* below to return to programming mode.
III. PROGRAMMING FREQUENCY CODES AND QC
CODES
Select the Frequency/ QC Code(s) to Program. Identify the codes for frequency(s) and QC
you will be programming; see Table 1 and Table 2. It is helpful to write down the codes in
sequence for easy reference while you are programming. Use the chart provided below:
CH 1 frequency
CH 1 QC code
CH 2 frequency
CH 2 QC code
(First 2 digits)
(Second 2 digits)
(Third 2 digits)
(Fourth 2 digits)

Put the Radio in Programming Mode:
Step 1: Remove the Phillips head screw
located below the channel button, near the base of the radio. Set the screw aside to
reinstall when you are finished programming.
Step 2: Turn on the radio.
Step 3*: Inside the screw hole is a program
switch. Press and release this switch by inserting a pen point or paper clip (with the end
bent outward), into the screw hole. The unit will sound a triple tone to confirm it is in
programming mode.
Frequencies and codes listed in Examples 1 4 are examples only. Select the
example from the following four examples that most closely resembles the way you are
programming your radio, then substitute the actual channel frequencies and QC codes you
have selected from Tables 1 and 2:
Step 4: Find the example which meets your
requirements and BEGIN PROGRAMMING. Be sure to use your actual codes!
EXAMPLE #1: One channel frequency without QC:

Verify Your Programmed Entries:
- Verify your programmed entries by pressing and releasing the volume up button again. The
radio will then read out all programmed codes as described in Section IV Reading
PROGRAMMED Contents OF THE RADIO.
- After the codes have been read out, return to normal operation by turning the radio off
and then back on.
IV. READING PROGRAMMED CONTENTS OF THE
RADIO
- Place the radio in programming mode. (See Section III. PROGRAMMING THE
RADIO," Steps 1-3.)
- Press and release the volume up button. The radio will sound a series of beeps, pause,
then begin another series. Each series represents a digit. The number of beeps is equal to
the digit. For example, 9 beeps = the digit "9." The radio will pause between
digits. (NOTE: Ten beeps = the digit 0.)
- Count the number of beeps for each digit and write down the digits in the sequence you
hear them in the chart provided below. The radio will signal a triple tone when it has
completed the readout of all digits. Cross reference your written chart to Table 1
(channel frequency codes) and Table 2 (QC codes.)

Notes:
- If the radio beeps out four digits (two codes), the radio is programmed for single
channel operation (with or without QC, depending on the second 2-digit code.)
- If the radio beeps out more than eight digits, the unit contents cannot be read using
this method. 4) Return to normal operation by turning the radio off and then back on. When
you have finished programming or reading out the contents of your JMX radio, remember
to reinstall the Phillips screw !
If you experience difficulty, call RITRON, Inc. at 1-800-USA-1-USA.
